It was on this lucky day, 28 years ago, that football God , Leo Messi, was born in the small town of Rosario, Argentina.
He started his legendary career playing in the streets. At the age of 11, Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency which was stopping his normal growth rate. His parents could not afford his treatment, which was USD 900 a month. At the age of 17, he became the youngest player in history to score a goal for Barcelona.
Messi donned Argentina’s kit for the first time on August 17, 2005 against Hungary at the tender age of just 18. He came as a substitute in the second-half against Hungary, but just a minute later, he was sent off with a red card for elbowing opposing defender Vilmos Vanczak. Later, young Messi was found crying uncontrollably in the corner of the dressing room by his team-mates. Such was Messi’s passion for football.
Messi has scored 412 goals for Barcelona in 482 games, 180 more goals than any other player in Barcelona history, having broken the club record back in March 2012. The Argentine holds career scoring records in La Liga (286), UEFA Champions League (77) and the Spanish Super Cup (10).
On his birthday, we wish Messi the best of luck, and we hope that he continues to dazzles us with his mesmerizing football. Thank you for doing what you’re doing Leo Messi. You truly are the greatest there ever was…
