Will Diego Simeone suceed in resurrecting Torres flagging career?

The Argentinian coach, Diego Simeone, is one of the best in the world. He is the top choice for the prestigious award of FIFA World Coach of the Year for 2014, along with the Madrid’s Carlo Ancelloti and Germany’s Joachim Low.

Since Dec 2011, when he held the manager’s seat in Vicente Calderon, Diego Simeone has helped Atletico Madrid achieve a lot of feats. With him as a manager, Atletico Madrid clinched five shiny, coruscating trophies. However, Simeone’s biggest ever achievement was in defeating Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga last year.

But the toughest challenge of his managerial life yet awaits for him as he attempts to succeed where Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo, Rafael Benitez, Jose Mourinho and Pippo Inzaghi all failed by rediscovering the old Fernando Torres. Simeone and Torres know each other since a long time. Both were teammates and close friends in Atletico Madrid during the 2003-2005 time period. Now let us wait and see if Simeone succeeds in revitalizing and rejuvenating his old friend, the out-of-form Torres.

Simeone had personally requested for the 30-year-old Torres return from the club owner, Cerezo.

“Simeone hardly ever asks us for anything but he asked for Torres,” said Crezero.

“It wasn’t easy to bring him back here but after a lot of hard work, we made it possible. It’s a happy and important day for Atleti.”

Torres has joined Atletico on a long-term loan from AC Milan until 2016. He is set to make his first club appearance against Real Madrid on January 7.
