Carlos Tevez signs for Boca Juniors

Boca Juniors have officially announced the signing of Argentina international Carlos Tevez. The striker will leave the Serie A Champions Juventus after Copa America to join the Argentine club. During his two-year successful span in Italy, the 31-year old Tevez scored 39 goals in league play and his darting runs, sharp passes and cunning awareness of how to unsettle defenders set up 14 other goals for his colleagues, plus plenty of opportunities they missed.

His departure from the Old Lady has been inevitable for some time despite one year still remaining on his contract, and Juve have clearly been preparing for life without him by bringing in new frontmen Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

Tevez joined the youth ranks at Boca in 1997 and spent three years in the senior team between 2001 and 2004, winning the Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores as well as the Intercontinental Cup. His return to his childhood club Boca Juniors has been greatly apprecited by his Argentine fans. Boca president Daniel Angelici told the club’s official Facebook page:
It is a day of joy and great satisfaction. The return of Carlos Tevez in an extraordinary moment of his career is fantastic news for all partners and supporters of Boca and Argentine football. The presence of Carlos will give another leap in quality to the great squad we have.
