The Argentine legend, Diego Maradona, believes that the German goalie, Manual Neuer, deserves the Ballon d’Or instead of the top-favorites, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
This came as quite a shock to Argentinian fans who were expecting him to support his countryman, Messi. However, Diego Maradona says what he feels like. He doesn’t care about country, friendship or even closeness. When it comes to football, he’s got an opinion and he expresses it.
“My favourite for the Ballon d’Or? Neither Messi, nor Ronaldo,” the Argentine told Radio Habana Cuba.
“For me, Neuer is the one who deserves it the most. I feel that Messi and Ronaldo have taken things a bit too relaxed in 2014.”Neuer’s achievements and performances makes him more than a valid candidate for the 2014 award; however, the general consensus is that the Portuguese stellar striker and Argentinian La Masia are the hot-favorites to lift this year’s Ballon d’Or trophy.
The award will be announced on annual Fifa gala, on January 12, 2015, in Zurich, Switzerland.
